What is a GIF?

A GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a short animation that plays in a loop. It has no soundtrack. That is why GIFs work in chat, comments, email, and almost any page that can show an image.

Video (MP4, MOV) is for watching a clip with audio and a play button. A GIF is for a moment you want to repeat — a reaction, a joke, a gesture. Files are usually smaller in time (a few seconds) even when the pixel file is large.
